Guide to John Muir Trail Backpacking Trip

This long distance trail is packed with adventure, as it passes through Yosemite, Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon. It takes you through the alpine forest, the natural mountain scenery and the average height of the trail lies around 2,400 m above ground level. Also known as the Americas most famous trail, it has its highest point at Mount Whitney (4,421) and the lowest point being Happy Isles (1,230 m).


Hikers who look for a long close to nature trip will have their best experience in these trails. They can stay till three weeks and still would have lot of things to explore and experience. It is one of the best places to hike! Ranked second after the West Coast Trail in Canada this trail offers you enough for a natural photographer’s appetite. Here you can easily get resupplies and has resting points which you can take benefit of.


Though, if you think that the time period of three weeks that is required to hike is too long; then there are segregated trails which end in a shorter time and cover parts of the trail. Eight to twelve miles can be covered in a day with sufficient time to rest. In case, you are a regular hiker then you will be able to increase the speed and cover more area. So, while planning for the trips keep your speed and stoppages in mind.  If travelling in a group then plan according to the speed and convenience of the whole group.
